In this episode Dr. Dirk Winter, who is an Adult and Child Psychiatrist, talks about how his own existential distress and curiosity about how to find a sense of purpose led him through many career transitions including undergraduate work in Origins of Life, then a Ph.D. in Developmental Cell Biology, then a stint as a mushroom field biologist in El Yunque, Puerto Rico before becoming an Adult and Child Psychiatrist at Columbia.
Recently his interests have shifted from left brained cognitive and psychodynamic approaches toward right brained interoceptive or body based therapeutic approaches as well as psychedelics. He has pursued training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Focusing, Hypnosis, Ketamine Assisted Therapy, Breath Body Mind, and Neurofeedback and has met many interesting healers along the ways.
The purpose of this show is learn what various types of therapists, psychiatrists, and healers have learned from their clinical work about how to create meaning in their own lives and in the lives of their patients.
